FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When are you moving back to the USA?
A. South Africa is home for us now, until we feel God is leading us somewhere else.

Q. What is NieuCommunities all about?
A. Exploring what it means to follow Jesus in other contexts. Loving God
alongside others. We have a 42-week internship so people can join and
learn with us too. See the “What we do” page or the NieuCommunities
website for specifics.

Q. Doesn’t it suck to have to raise support from others to do what you do?
A. Yes, because it means having to ask people to give their money – always
a touchy subject. No, because it means there are lots of people
invested in and participating with us in making a difference here.

Q. Isn’t South Africa dangerous?
A. Where isn’t? No, not especially.

A. No, just one out of every four people.

A. The boys are fluent in Afrikaans. Arthur is going to start learning
Zulu. FYI, just about everyone here speaks some English, and most want
to speak it more. And, this is one of those rare countries where
people like Americans.

Q. What’s the weather like?
A. We are inland and a mile high. So, it can get pretty warm in the
summer (90’s), but rains most afternoons/nights and cools down then.
Winters are mild and dry.

Q. Do people wear clothes?
A. Mostly (Our boys wear as little as possible). In fall and spring, elementary school kids don’t wear shoes to school.

A. We would love that!
